little majorly obsessed with organizers and planners. I could never find one that I love and that fits exactly how I use it, so about two years ago I made my own out of a mini-binder and some inserts from Office Max. It had a good run, but I recently realized that I’d used the poor thing to the point of near disintegration, so I was on the prowl for new ideas. Enter the $1-$5 section at the entrance of Target. They got me again!
I ran in during lunch (for diapers only… as if), so I didn’t have a ton of time to stand there and do my typical “this one or that one, polka dots or stripes… maybe I should just put it all back” routine and I just tossed all of this stuff into the cart.
What I got: (all from Target, of course)
Binder Clips, $1 by Made for Retail, Inc.
Mini Calendar Clips, $1 Item #70846 by Horizon Group USA
Highlighters, $1 Item #70849 by Horizon Group USA
6 pk Wood Pencils, $1 – Floral by Made for Retail, Inc.
Sticky Notes, $1 Item #70860 by Horizon Group USA
Binder Zip Case, $5 by yoobi
3 pack File Folders – White Metallic, $1 – by Made for Retail, Inc.
Later that evening I was all pumped to play with my new toys, but I realized quickly that this stuff wasn’t going to work. If you notice in the picture, the cute little aqua pages have “Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday” on the front of the page, and “Wednesday, Thursday, Friday” on the back. WHAT THA??? This is a design fail. What self-respecting, planner-loving, list-making person (with mild OCD tendencies) doesn’t need to see the entire week at one time? It had to go.
Being the highly impatient planner that I am, I just decided to make my own. And I decided to make it full 8.5″x11″ pages so that I’d have more room to write and so that I could put pocket dividers in there for space to tuck all my bills, stamps, stickers, coupons, etc. So for the new size I got:
5 pack File Dividers/Tabs – White Metallic, $1 – by Made for Retail, Inc.
1″ Binder, $5.99, www.greenroomeco.com
And from Walgreens:
Avery Big Tab Pocket Insertable Plastic Dividers, $3.99
I added the pocket dividers and stuffed them with all of random papers that I always seem to need with me, along with my bills. Yes, I know it’s 2016, and yes, I know that paper bills are ridiculous. But it has been my system since college and it works. I also shred and recycle everything in sight, so don’t get too mad!
Then I added my pencil pouch filled with stickers and pretty pencils and markers, because let’s face it, I’m clearly a 7 year-old in a 34 year-old’s body.
And then I thought… maybe some of the fabulous people reading this might want a little copy of this planner for themselves?!
So I added a cover page and some fun dates for upcoming blog posts, as well as all the remaining major holidays for 2016. The calendar is from July 2016 – December 2016. I realize that unless you’re Marty McFly, the July 2016 pages will not help you at this point. You can skip printing those if you want. I labeled this planner “the twenty-sixteen second half planner” because everything is more exciting in the second half! Now let’s go make some big plans…
