You know… I talk a really big game about how we move from one house to another without the inconvenience of the emotional ties that most people feel with their homes. But, the truth is I was not always this way. I’ve had my heart broken. And it all came rushing back to me this week when I saw pictures of the one that got away… the last place that really felt like home.
Oh boy. Where to begin? Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and (for us) Happy New House! We survived the move… barely. BUT, we are all still alive, Lane and I are still married, and all of our stuff (SO MUCH) made it from the old house to the new one. I call it a win. I can’t wait to catch you guys up on all of the insanity that the last six weeks have been and show you all that we’ve accomplished in the house so far. I’d like to jump right to the pretties (the floorrrr!!!, the fireplaaaaace!!!), but to really appreciate it all, I will start with how we moved an entire 2700 square foot house on a tiny timeframe, with three giant moving trucks, two pick up trucks, a handful of the BEST friends, and one tyrant toddler. It won’t be pretty, but it can be done, so here are my best tips to make moving easier. Get your back brace!VIEW POST
It’s official! After less than one month – including a week long pause for a hurricane – we are under contract on our Suburbialand house! Our contract price is guaranteed to make our neighbors blush… and possibly infuriate those on our street who’ve had their house on the market for six months or more. How did we have the patience and fortitude to do it, you ask….
Booze. Lots of booze. We continuously reminded ourselves of a few key factors and stuck to our guns to get top dollar. Want to know to sell your house fast and for the most moola? I’ll tell you.VIEW POST
Four mortgages in four years… First the 90’s beauty, then the 1947 Bungalow, then the Suburbialand house… are we idiots or what?! Every single time we start this process and go to prequalify for a mortgage, I have a small mental breakdown and wonder what in the hell we are doing. That has been my life for the last several days. Plus LC is sick (and me too a little bit) AND we’re getting ready to go on vacation for the first time without her… I am a nervous anxiety bomb and I wish someone would just shoot me with a tranquilizer dart. Since that is unlikely to happen – unless Lane has been sedative shopping – I thought I would give a little rundown of how to prequalify for a mortgage for those that have not done it eighty times in the last half decade, in hopes that it may help alleviate someone else’s stomach-wrenching home buying stress. I’m also sneaking in a teensy glimpse of the house that we have a contract on, just because I really can’t resist.
Almost a year ago now we sold our beloved 90’s Beauty by accident on Zillow in eight days. We were just toying around with the idea of moving and decided to post our house on Zillow Make Me Move with the number that it would literally take to make us move. We had a call from a buyer’s agent within two days, and we were officially “under contract” in eight. WHOOPS! Especially considering that we had a six month old and no idea where we wanted to live. But, we got some advice that resonated to take the money off the table, so we did! We closed on our home three years to the day after we bought it. Since then, many people have stared in disbelief when we tell them that we sold our home with Zillow Make Me Move. Since you do not pay the 3% sales commission that you would pay a listing agent when you DIY your listing, many people have asked how we did it, so here’s the story all about how (my life got flip-turned upside down) we sold our house using Zillow, and why I believe you still need a Realtor.VIEW POST
